Happy Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is a very important day.  It should be.  It’s the day we all take to reflect upon our relationship with our moms, sisters, daughters, grandmothers and wives.  It’s a day that to some is a tough reminder of things that they missed out on in life, for some its a day to celebrate good times and to others its a day to imagine things to come.  We at UtahBubble.com think Mother’s Day is such an important day that we are dedicating a whole week to moms with today’s post and a tomorrow’s poll to vote for the best Mommy Blogger in Utah!

Because I can I’d like to take a quick moment and say Happy Mother’s Day to my mom in New Jersey.  Even though she can be a little nutty and has driven me crazy for most of my 35 years, she is still a great mom and deserves to be recognized as such.  I sure love you mom and hope you have a great Mother’s Day.  I also want to wish my Nana is NJ and my mother-in-law in Utah a super awesome Happy Mother’s Day.

I also want to take this chance to tell you all about the greatest mom I have ever had the privilege of knowing.  My wife Wendy.  Wendy is an incredible mom who takes such good care of our little one that the kid is advanced in speech, reading, writing and all the other important skills a kid needs and she’s only just turned 3.  She is really amazing and takes great care of us both (I am kind of like having a second kid).  This leads me to the test of a great mom.

I have figured out how you know a mom is great.  No, really, I have developed a system that is as perfect as the mom who passes it.  Here’s how it works:

My daughter is a daddy’s girl.  She loves her papa so much that I spend half of my life peeling her off of my back as she desires to be an appendage of mine at all times.  It’s always papa this and papa that.  Until that moment.  This “moment” is how you can truly tell just how great a mom is.  The “moment” is different for all kids I guess, but for our kid that moment is the second she feels pain.  When my daughter gets hurt she calls for one person and one person only.  Mama!  It’s beautiful to watch it.  My wife will scoop her up and start talking her through it.  My daughter snuggles in and with that super awesome mommy power the pain goes away (or at least settles a ton).  Then she looks at my wife with those grateful eyes that say, “Oh woman… I love you and you are such a wonderful mother and thank you so much for making my pain go away.”  That is how you know Wendy is a great mom, because in my daughter’s greatest moment of need she goes to the one person in the world, who to her, personifies comfort, caring and love.  Wendy always passes the test with an A+.  Wendy is the greatest mom I have ever known.

Then the pain is gone.

The next thing you hear is, “PAPA!!!  Want to play?”  It’s awesome to watch.  My daughter’s need for my wife is divine and I am so happy that I was able to convince a woman like her, who wanted so much to give that kind of love to her kids, to marry me despite those few flaws I have.

So Happy Mothers Day to all you moms in and out of the Bubble and may your kids grow up and appreciate the beauty that is a mother.
