- Discovery Gateway
What a week! Hogle Zoo, our favorite to win, captured more votes than any other contestant with The Utah Shakespearean Festival and Lagoon being the only other places to grab over 100 votes. Still, there were some great races. The Great Outdoors was so close that in the end Lake Powell and Moab actually tied for third, getting them both a spot in the finals. Thanksgiving Point, who started off very strong, was ultimately beaten out by Discovery Gateway and Nightmare on 13th. Another great comeback was Deer Valley Resort who in two days came from behind and knocked off Sundance Resort.
While there were a few strange nominees (wherever Chris is and Park City Health Care) one was successful in claiming a spot in the finals. Lindsay’s Mom’s House beat out Arctic Circle and Hee Haw Farms with 38 votes, the lowest total for any contestant moving on.
So enough with the recap! Lets get the FINAL POLL going! The finals poll is now open and will close Sunday at midnight (Mountain Daylight Time). You only get one vote so be sure to tell your friends, your family, your mailman (or mailwoman to be over politically correct), your therapist and your chiropractor to come vote too. Write your congressman and your senator too
.
May the flippin most funnest place win!

For you hard core fans who visit the site tonight between midnight and 8AM tomorrow morning, our Finals Poll will start by 9AM (MDT) so be sure to check back and vote!
We will be awarding a fist, second and third prize, so make sure you spread the word for your favorite even if they only have a chance for second or third place!!!!
Def Discovery Gateway! Never had so much flipping fun in UT in my whole life! PLUS the staff there is phenomenal!!!
Seriously? Hogle Zoo? Don’t get me wrong, I love the place, but only every so often and it’s definitely not the best that Utah has to offer. I think this is rigged by people living in SLC with kids.
Come on Kristy… you can’t just make a comment like that and not make mention of the places you think are better
Now you have to come back and tell us all who you “do like”! And you need to get all of your friends to vote for it too!!!
Southern Utah is totally cooler than those places…Shakespeare Festival, Zion National Park and Lake Powell are awesome…have you never been here?
I’m with Kristy on that one. There’s not enough Southern Utah love on here, a lot of Utah acts as if anything south of Utah county doesn’t exist. Shakespeare Fest, Tuacahn and Zions are pretty mush the only things you’ve got going in your poll for Southwestern Utah. What about Bryce Canyon, Brian Head, Cedar Breaks to mention just a few more. Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum gets 59 % of the votes? People need to get back to the great outdoors and start teaching kids about nature hands on, it’s a lot more fun and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!
Come on Audrey… you missed the entire first week and now you want to be a hater
There were several nominees from Southern Utah, but not enough people showed up from Southern Utah to vote for them.
You and Kristy need to tell all your friends about this poll and help Zion National Park, Lake Powell, Tuacahn or Utah Shakespeare Festival win… cause if they do we are going to do a big write up on the top three and give them free ads! ITS UP TO YOU AND KRISTY TO SPREAD THE WORD!!!!
Also don’t forget that we let the fans nominate their favorite places and here is the first round so you can see what you missed:http://utahbubble.com/2009/04/21/the-flippin-most-funnest-place-in-utah-poll-has-begun/
Included in the first round were moab, Bryce Canyon, Grand Staircase, Arches, Lake Powell (which you failed to mention in your rant), Capital Reef, Saint George, Monument Valley and more…
So you see, we did include many of the great outdoors
Hopefully you will be around next time we open up nominations to the fans, but even more exciting is the fact that you and Kristy are going to help those places from you neck of the woods catch up… you only need two or three hundred votes to catch up and you have until Sunday at midnight to do it! Remember you can vote more than once!!!
So far no extra votes for Zion, Shakespeare Fest, Lake Powell or Tuacahn… we need Audrey and Kristy to lead the charge and get those votes up.
Actions speak louder than words
Zion is AWESOME!! Take a picnic and hike a few trials with the kids….to Wheeping Rock or the Riverside Trial…thats just a couple of the many cool ones! The town it’s in is a quint little old town type place. With many little shops that are fun, an ice cream place is one of our favorites. The elk farm there is also neat for the kids. My kids love feeding them. To end the day eat at one of the many different restaurants they have to offer.
I just took my kids to the Discovery Gateway Museum and I couldn’t get them to leave, there are so many this for them to do there. The art exhibit is incredible (high school artists).Definatly the most fun we’ve had as a family in a very long time. Thanks to the staff for teaching my kids about art.
one of the bestest places i have ever taken my kids!!
The staff is amazing and we love coming back and bring new people and kids!!
Peter… great praise!!! But who the heck are you praising? Helps to let everyone know who it is you are commenting about
We at the Bubble dig you anyways!
OK OK!!!! It is the Discovery Gateway!!!
Discovery Gateway is the stuff! I remember it when is was the Children’s Museum out in North Salt Lake and it’s even better at it’s new location…..THE GATEWAY!!!!!
ok yeah…so discovery gateway is fun….but they have places like that ALL over the US. Seriously we are talking about the BEST place in Utah. Oh well. Life goes on if it wins I suppose.
OK Kristy… here’s the deal. No more complaining, but if you can send out a few emails, call a few businesses in the south and stir things up enough to get Zion, Shakespearean Festival, Moab or Tuacahn to win third place (they only need 40 to 50 votes) then when we get our inventory in later this summer I will send you and your husband free t-shirts!
If you don’t take action after complaining three times on our website dedicated to having FUN, I will be forced to work with our creative director in designing a “hater’s” t-shirt in your honor
So I am looking forward to seeing one of these places in the South pick up some steam! If you have to call the theatre groups in Cedar or contact Tuacahn and tell them to vote.. you only need a few votes to get them all back in the race for third place… will our fans from the South make it happen or just complain their way through?
We shall see… no matter what we still love you as we do all our fans, but we’d love you more if you didn’t complain so much
I just have to say that discovery Gateway IS The Flippin Most Funnest Place in Utah!!! I have been to these other “places ALL over the U.S.” And even out of all of those Childrens Museums Discovery Gateway is still the best.
To All – I am NOT a hater. I love the site and think it’s great. I also happen to love Northern Utah and have lived in various parts of the state there for many years of my life. Please don’t make hater t’s for me
I will do what I can to pull in the votes for southern utah. I suppose I can’t blame anyone if you’ve never been here, which many haven’t. So how’s this: LOVE to northern Utah…more love for Southern
Kristy, Though there are many Childrens Museums through out the country, there is only 1 Discovery Gateway Childrens Museum, and it happens to be the best!!!!!! or should I say the MOST FUNNEST anywhere.
Kristy,
I am with you on the Northern Utah thing. I hate that I jumped into this late. Where is Historic 25th Street, Snow Basin and iFly? My write-in vote is for Historic 25th Street in Ogden.
I have been to places like Zions and I enjoyed it but…..What do you do if you can’t always go down there or if the weather is crappy… You go to Discovery Gateway because it’s indoors and open all year round!!!
I think it is obvious that a few of you people work for Discovery Gateway, but Kristy don’t be such a whiner
Fun site UtahBubble!
Wendy, You are correct I do work for the Museum, and I do not think of Wendy as a whiner. She is a person with a great passion for Southern Utah, not unlike that which we feel for our Museum. You keep pushing for your favorite places Kristy I think it’s great.
Remember everyone (and Kristy) you can vote as many times as you would like to… by erasing your cookies in the tools section of your browser and by refreshing you can vote as many times as you’d like.
This means Kristy could in fact give all of the Southern Region Nominees several votes all by herself. So make sure you pick out your favorite and go for it!
Responding to Kristy’s plea- Southern UT is at least as fun as anythign else you’ve got on this list! Zions gets my vote, but really just plant yourself in St George or Cedar City and you are within an hour(maybe 2) of a lifetimes worth of fun, beautiful, gorgeous, varied, outdoor activities that you can’t match anywhere else in the world, much less the state. Zions, Cedar Breaks, BrianHead, Snow Canyon, Kolob, Bryce Canyon, Tuacahn, Shakespeare, and so on are just the big names. There is lots of little stuff too.
I didn’t mention Lake Powell because I was focusing on Southwestern Utah in my, as you put it, “rant”.
Way to go Kristy!!! Looks like you are going to win those shirts after all!!! Now you see that people she backed up her RANT with action!
Now Audrey, don’t you know that you are supposed to be nice to us on our site
You failed to apologize for not realizing you missed the fact that we had included several other Southern Utah place in the first round, but you didn’t fail to bring up “RANT”.
Are you a politician?
Thanks to you both for getting the word out in the Southern Region of the state!
Go Shakespeare go! I think a lot of the credit should go to Audrey actually…she’s been voting like crazy I think…
If that is true than perhaps Kristy and Audrey should have “super fan” T-shirts made of them instead of “hater” shirts
To go with the t-shirt that we are going to make for Discovery Gateway… which may very well be the Flippin Most Funnest Place in Utah GRAND PRIZE WINNER!!!!
I guess this poll should be funnest place for kids? I don’t get it – are kids voting or just people who have them? Is it really THAT fun for you parents or is it just really fun having your kids occupied? I don’t even think you are allowed in that place unless you are a kid or are with one.
Maybe there should be a different poll caterin to “fun for everyone”, not JUST kids!
Sounds like a great poll idea Wendy. We can do a favorite place for people over 18! Consider it done… we’ll work on having that one up to celebrate the new section of our site we are creating called Food and Entertainment in the Bubble.
We are always up for poll ideas so please email them to us at info@utahbubble.com or fill out our contact form or just leave a comment like Wendy.
Maybe you could have a Miss Bubble contest, too. There could be competitions based on things like stripey-est highlights, biggest teased-up hair bump (bonus points if she also has those stiff curls a la The Real Housewives of Orange County), darkest fake n bake tan, best outfit utilizing knee-length shorts a modesty tee and matchy-match accessories, best use of bubble-ish phrases like “for cute”, who has given their kid the most made-up name (bonus points for wacko spellings), who uses the most vinyl lettering in their home decor, and of course, for the talent portion, a baking competition.
What do you think? I think it has GOLD written all over it.
WOW!!! As a matter of fact we are a family friendly place with many activities designed to bring adults and children together. We have family art workshops daily at 1:00pm, as well as the first and last Friday of each month. There is a wonderful art gallery on our third floor displaying 70 works from the 37th annual Springville Museum of Art Utah High school compitition, these high school artests are amazing. So as our mission statement says We are her to Inspire children of ALL AGES to Discover, Imagine and Connect with the world around them. Come on by and I’ll give you the tour. Its a pretty great place.
I could be the expert on whacko names and spellings. Here’s a new one: Xadge, pronounced “Sage.” The poor kid will have to be spelling that or giving the pronunciation to someone every day of his life (or is it a “her”?). At the beginning of every school year I see more and more weird names like this.
I do have to say that EVERYONE who comes into Discovery Gateway can have as much fun as they want to have. You are NEVER to old to have fun! The Mission at Discovery Gateway is “To Inspire children of all ages, to imagine, discover, and connect to there world to make a difference.” the key part in that is “there world” The world to an adult is going to be very different from that of a child. Yes I work at Discovery Gateway and as we were closing last night I was talking to a father, and he thanked me for reminding him that he gets to play too. He said he had to re-learn how to play because he is a new father and Discovery Gateway was the BEST place to do that.
The names thing is a great idea Wendy, but I was thinking a vote on which is the best of the “Aiden” names:
Aiden
Braden
Jayden
Kaiden
Caidan
Hayden
Let me know if you have heard of others
I’ve heard Ireland, several times
Askel ( Pronounced Axel), Jaxson,…. Those are the oddest ones I’ce heard or seen written
Lagoon came so close to getting into the top three… sooooo close!!!!
Ooops… they tied for third!!!!
I did the voting that got USF into third place, but it seems other people stepped up and helped it stay there, I don’t have enough time on my hands to cast almost 300 votes by myself!
