Since a couple of you asked… Stephanie Aurora Clark Nielson is a mommy blogger who has touched the lives of many through her blog and through surviving a horrible plane crash in the late summer last year. She and her husband survived the crash, but have had a very long and hard road… their plight has really been one shared by the entire mommy-blogging community and far beyond that…
The cool part about NieNie (as she is called on her blog) is her attitude through everything… go check out her blog and you will understand why I made sure she was on this list… she is an inspiration to me and so many that she deserves to be on the list!

p.s. Yes I am a dude and yes I read mommy blogs!!!! Especially this one!
The greatest Utahn of all time? The Utah Bubble creators!
I believe that you should put in the International Olympic Committee because they single handedly bettered the state through road, infrastructure, and publicity to Utah
Consider this my write-in vote for Jewel. She’s from Payson. Also, because SOMEBODY in my house already voted, I can’t vote. So all you get from me is a write-in. FOR JEWEL. Take that.
Hey Chris… didn’t the Olympics committee end up in some sort of scandal?
Hey, Philo T. is my grandmother’s brother, or something like that! That’s pretty great. He even has a statue in the U. S. Capitol in D.C. But since I don’t watch much t.v., I wouldn’t consider him the greatest Utahn ever. I know, how about my dad? He was born in Utah and was the federal highway engineer over the original design and construction of I-15 and I-80 back in the l960′s, the roads which make it possible for us to get out of Utah quickly. We should be praising his name every time we take the interstates instead of having to relay on highway 89!
Make that one write-in vote for Morley B. Christensen, Deputy Commission of the Federal Bureau of Public Roads. Thanks, Dad!
As much as we Utahns love our religion and its leaders don’t discount the importance of the television. We wouldn’t have any kind of visual representation for our computers to interface with if we didn’t have the invention of the TV screen. We also wouldn’t have the ability to read out results as an image to many of our modern medical tests.
Philo T. Farnsworth is most certainly the most important person Utah has given to the world even if he wasn’t a religious icon to the members of the state.
Depends how you define “great”. If by that you mean “had the largest effect for good or ill on the world” it’d have to be a tie between Philo T. Farnsworth (invented the TV, good) and Reed Smoot (brought us the Great Depression with his tariff, bad).
OK… we didn’t include a couple of people that you have asked about and here are some reasons
John Huntsman Jr. – Let’s see what else he can get done before we bestow such an honor
Morley B. Christensen – Didn’t find him on the search, but he should’ve been on the list over the Miss America lady (she was mostly a joke, but got two votes!)
Rocky Anderson – The guy’s a little nutty and I’m not sure he did enough to be the greatest Utahn ever
There is one name we left out and wish to say we wish we had not: Thurl Bailey is a wonderful guy who has done a lot for the community… next time Thurl… you will be on the list.
Thanks for all your votes and emails… we are excited to see who wins!!!!
I must say that nothing can top the glory days of the Stockton/Malone Jazz team. Can anyone remember when John Stockton made that shot to make us the Western conference Champions? It still gives me chills. There aren’t too many things I “love” about Utah… but the good ol’ Jazz have earned a big place in my heart (right next to my love for green jell-o).
Go Jazz!
This vote is coming from a guy transplanted to Utah by way of Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver and Houston. The one thing I heard in all those cities had “….it’s Stockton to Malone”
Put LM and the Jazz have their place in putting Utah on the map!
If Colleen Hutchins is on there, what about Sharlene Wells Hawkes, Miss America 1985?
Funny that Rigby, ID tries to take credit for Philo T. Farnsworth. He lived there as a kid, but wasn’t born there or did his TV work there.
I voted for Donny and Marie… But really that entry should read George, Olive, Tom, Virl, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny and Marie…. Guess you can’t count Jimmy, since he was born
in California…. They ALL count among the greatest Utahns of all time in my book, though… An amazing family!
I have to agree with Angela!! The Osmonds!! They are truly the most amazing family. As far as I am concerned they have put UTAH on the map!!!
Donny and Marie, Yes, but long before them you have to remember—George, Olive, Virl, Tom, Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, then Donny and Marie and of course Jimmy.
Utah is their home and they love it with all their hearts!!!
How I wish Utah Loved them as much!!
It’s got to be the Osmonds. When you think of Utah, you think of Osmond!!!
I agree, all of the Osmonds should be included. They are a wonderful family and have put Utah on the world map for many years. They have my vote.
The Osmonds are really the best Family for this vote, Donny just rocks and is so gorgeous, Marie is so Stunning and beautiful.!x
Hands down Marie and Donny are the winners! They should have included all the Osmonds though.
got to be the Osmonds
Donnie and Marie… when I joined the LDS Church I knew more about them than the Gospel. They seem to be really great people… and soon they will be the Greatest Utahns Ever!!!
Brigham Young
Gordan B Hinkley
Nathan Peterson
Franklin Covey
Larry H Miller
In that order
Donnie! Donnie! Donnie! Nobody in the world can rock the purple socks like Donnie!
Has to be Donny and Marie along with the rest of the Osmond Family. They have brought so much joy to millions of people all over the world. Personally – their stong Christian beliefs – and wonderful music has helped get through many tough moments in my life. I am not sure where I would be today and this continues even today. I feel in my heart that they have been my mentors through out my life -true Angels living here on earth. Their music is always my pick-me-up whenever I am down. God Bless them all.
I’d have to say the greatest Utahn of all time is either Ezra Taft Benson or W. Cleon Skousen.
Definitely Donny and Marie! Most of the out-of-state and non-Mormon population wouldn’t be that familiar with a lot of the other names, but Donny and Marie are household names and have been for nearly 4 decades. They don’t even need to use their (famous) last name – just Donny and Marie and nearly everyone knows who they are! They are like the energizer bunny – they just keep going and going…..
I’m 99% pretty sure Farnsworth was living in Idaho when he invented the television and was an Idahoan. Maybe he came from Utah, but just about every museum, memorial and history center in Idaho claims Farnsworth as an Idahoan.
Secondly, this poll should be renamed, “Who is the most POPULAR MORMON.” I can think of several Utahns that have contributed greatly to the world whose names aren’t even on this list and some on this list aren’t even native Utahns or lived most of their life outside of Utah. A little more research and some clarification about what makes a Utahn “Great” would make this poll more credible.
Jimmy… you’re getting a little too serious… look around… we’re the Utah Bubble… it’s not a scientific poll… it’s a FUN poll… and what in the world could be more credible than THE UTAH BUBBLE TEAM of extraordinary poll maker-uppers?????
Plus, there were quite a few non-LDS people listed on the poll… well… at least two and one or two who aren’t active
THE OSMONDS… or in this case, the hottest act in Vegas right now: DONNY & MARIE!
glad to see Donny and Marie were the BIG winners. They have made such a diffence to so many people. They will always have a special place in my heart. They are a fantastic family.
The Omsond brothers are fine, but leave marie out of it. she never could sing like her brothers. she got lucky. she was born an osmond. unfortunately, she sings off key! my dad met marie once and said she was not a nice person.
